Congratulations to Trée for surpassing the 100 mark on results returned,
Daniel and Kiley for reaching 10,000 points so quickly (as Kiley wrote on her blog, there's been some serious ass-kicking going on, couldn't agree more :-D), and a big
WELCOME to our new crunchers DJB aka TotalChaos, Bavani, Oliviah, Connie aka studentdk, Puven, Karen aka sellrealest8, Desi aka consise10 and OliviahO.

D'oh! I knew I forgot to do something. Will look at signing up, when I get some time later this week.

Excellent, Chai, take a look, see what you think, and if you do decide to join us, you will be very welcome indeed.
Hope you're having a great week!
Hugs to you and the littl'un, xo

How exactly does this thing work?

Autumn Storm said...

Saff, all one needs to do is download a small programme, which then runs in the background whenever your computer is idle. It requests data from the World Community Grid on one of the projects that they are currently working on (eg AIDS, Muscular Dystrophy) and works on this data before sending the results back to the main server.

From the WGC site: Grid Computing: The Basics
Grid computing joins together many individual computers, creating a large system with massive computational power that far surpasses the power of a handful of supercomputers. Because the work is split into small pieces that can be processed simultaneously, research time is reduced from years to months. The technology is also more cost-effective, enabling better use of critical funds.

It's all perfectly safe. As you may know from Decadent Tranquility, some of us have been running these agents for up to and over two years without problems. It does not interfere with your use of your computer, nor do you have to do anything other than download and register, a process that takes approximately 5 minutes. Take the first link in my sidebar for more information.

For a quick idea of what it is all about, watch this very short SEGMENT of televised news. :-)

Autumn STorm, terrific of you to provide such fantastic updates! :-) Wouldn't you just love to see the team add another 20 members or so? THAT would be fun. ;-)

Take care, linking you up!

Woo hoo! Congrats Team Bravo!!
I'll be joining in after I get settled into LA and have my computer up and running there!!

Hope you are having an excellent day yourself, dear swata!! :-)

That, Kiley, would be abso-fucking-lutely fantastic! :-D Thank you for all the plugs your side too, Daniel has made a huge contribution as have you, and now with the addition of a second comp, as our friend said, it's like adding another member to the team.
Happy day ahead. :-)

J, thanks! And very much looking forward to being able to call you my teammate along with my ghato. :-D Love to you, xoxo

Hey Autumn. Just dropping by to leave some hugs and congratulations to the new Team Bravo. Evenstar and I are on 33k dial up at our island home so I'm not sure we have the bandwidth to do anything worthwhile (it doesn't go far between two of us) at the moment. We'll be sure to join just as soon as we have broadband again :) Keep up the good work guys.

Autumn Storm said...

Bean, hugs greatly appreciated, sending some in turn to you both along with those wishes.
So very nice to hear from you! :-D

When the time comes, we'll be thoroughly delighted to have you both join us. Take care of yourselves and each other, xo

Just dropping in to say hi. Not too swell at joining things - hugs anyway and best wishes in your endeavors.

I shan't pretend your name and points wouldn't have looked good on the score sheet. ;-) No problem, Terry, as said, the door's open to those who would like to help and to those who wouldn't, though you may get sick of me repeating what wonderful causes the WCG are working on, :-D, I hope, you know, popping your head around the door to convey best wishes to the others on a stats post will always be very welcome too!

Have a great weekend, hey to G. :-)

Hey Jodes. :-)
Met up with Jillie and R yesterday and had a great evening. Jillie is everything I knew she would be and R is absolutely wonderful too!
Hope you're having a great weekend too. M and I are about to head out for a walk as the sun sets - weather came back to the good side for our guests, which was a stroke of luck. :-)
Enjoy the rest of your Sunday, hugs to you.
