Joining today could be someone's good fortune tomorrow

Ask me what I am doing right now.
I am helping to improve the results of protein X-ray crystallography in order to increase understanding of cancer and its treatment.
Good answer, right? :-)

Now ask me what I am doing later.
Well, I might assist in the development of more accurate climate models of specific regions in Africa. Or I might join the group that are trying to identify promising drug leads to combat the related dengue, hepatitis C, West Nile, and Yellow fever viruses. Or I might work on any other one of the other projects currently being undertaken by the World Community Grid.

Innovatively defining the proverb Many hands make light work, the WCG allows the general public to assist scientists as they search for the solutions to problems that affect humanity using a very small, wholly safe piece of software donated by IBM and freely available to download via the WCG website. It takes less than 5 minutes to register, download and install and requires no further action. Currently there are over 800,000 computers in private homes and offices that whenever idle are working for the grid and returning on average over 110,000 results a day. 50 of those (on average) come from Team Bravo. Created by Trée, Team Bravo unites an amazing group of bloggers and the friends and family that they in turn have recruited and it allows us to have a little fun with it. There is the House, there has been a competition and if that wasn't enough along with the knowledge that we are doing something worthwhile, there is the chance to see...wait for it... your name in colour! :-D

Sweetest, good to see you posting again. ;-)

Over the last four years I've seen many plaintive pleas for the cause, but nothing nearly as poignant or brilliant as this post. You had me wanting to join all over again. Thank you Sweetest Heart for all you do. Keep pounding the message. Keep the faith. Don't get discouraged. Sooner or later a few more doors will open in minds and hearts.

Every single result counts. No contribution is too small. Joining the WCG is like reaching out a hand to a child in need. Our hands are outstretched but we need more help. Please consider joining us. Can you spare five minutes?

Good Sunday morning Autumn Storm...

Okay, if you and Tree think it is that important, the least I can do is check it out --
:)
Loving Annie

p.s. It's obvious you and Tree are very close. I hope I am in no way stepping on any toes in a cyber way by commenting on his blog. If it feels in any way wrong or uncomfortable to you, please let me know. I don't mean to interrupt something beautiful if I have stumbled on it like a clumsy giant, selfishly unaware of the delicate undercurrents.

Sincerely,
Loving Annie

Good morning, Annie. :-)
Thank you. That's all I(we) ask for I truly believe that anyone who understands what the WCG is and does and how easy and safe it is will want to join. We are not always able to give as much as we think we ought to, and this way of giving is unique in that it costs neither time nor money but still one will be making a very real contribution. Any one of us could be the one to return an all-important result, how exciting is that! :-)

No secret to the fact that I absolutely adore Trée, he is an exceptionally warm, open and gifted person, who has not only been a wonderful friend, but has been entertaining me for years now. :-D Such beauty of heart, mind and soul is rare and very special. Whenever anybody else stumbles upon his blog and sees what I see, I'm thrilled. I just wish more people would take the time to read regularly, not for his sake, but for theirs. :-) DT is like a gift lying out in the open and it takes someone like yourself to appreciate it. The original story groupies (prerequisite for being a member, one must love The Story) have all but scattered to the winds for one reason or another and I have been hoping for a revival, no links to take for this one, just say yes. :-D

Have a wonderful day, xo

Morning Poppet, thank you for the kind words, I've been meaning to put up a new post for ages. ;-)
I've got a good feeling about this one, especially now that you have added your words. Perfectly said!

Annie, welcome to the team as mate #39. So nice to have you aboard. :-)

:-) Annie, thank you for joining us. Welcome to the team and happy crunching!

So how does the team bravo work if you're just downloading the software? I've always wondered but keep forgetting to ask.

Hey Autumn, every time I take my finger off the pulse you post a brilliant bit about Team Bravo!!
Wonderful!
It is so good being part of this team thank you and Trée for all the help friendship and support!

Hey newbie....Hi Annie you will have so much fun with the peeps round here.

Hey wouldn't it be such fun to be able to tell who scrunched the 3 millionth point!! But please don't even mention the difference between someones results returned and mine! Double...I ask you!!!

Thanks Autumn - great post. Have a great Monday!

Autumn Storm said...

For Saby and Linny.
Everyone and anyone is welcome to join the WCG and Team Bravo. All that is needed is a computer connection. The small device available freely to download from the WCG (World Community Grid) works in the background and does not interfere with your use of your computer in any way. What it does is download calculations for your computer to work on whenever you are not using it. Whenever you are idle, whether it is for a minute, for 10 minutes, for a hour or longer, it will be working on a task which when completed it will connect to the WCG, return and download a new task. It all happens automatically and so there is nothing you need do once you have spent the <5mins setting up. The WCG website explains everything in detail (link in the post or sidebar). Or watch this short video.
Once a member of the WCG, you would be very welcome to join us at Team Bravo. What this does is unite us under one heading and thus as well as seeing personal results, we can follow just how many results we are returning collectively. Joining Team Bravo is just hitting one button, so in total we could be welcoming you to the team in less than 5 minutes and we would so love to be able to do that. A great cause and probably the easiest way ever to give.

Saby, thank you for the invitation, feel humbled, will email you later tonight. :-)

Autumn Storm said...

Keshi, sometime last night we surpassed that 3 million mark, woohooo!

Team Bravo, you guys are the best! Thank you each of you for joining and for being such dedicated crunchers. See you at 4 million. :-D

Autumn Storm said...

Simon, I've run out of time, but thank you! And my lips are sealed, ;-), except to quote the captain "Every single result counts." Have a great day off today, hope the weekend was as amazing as expected, and check you later, x

EBEZP said...

Hi Autumn have a good evening are you 'soaping' tonight? I guess I am, as with meetings and a continuing guitar festival and numerous other things including a couple of hours a night with A.N.Other team bravo member on the phone there's precious little time left this week. Catch up on soaps tonight and it will probably do me for another week!

Autumn Storm said...

A couple of hours a night that's quite the commitment. :-) Well, I couldn't help myself, had to watch the bungee jumping and bush tucker trials. Not a good idea though, that show is strangely addictive. With 'J' there, yum, there's real incentive. Have a good night, Simon. :-)

Keshi said...

Happy Tuesday Dahlin!

Keshi.

EBEZP said...

Well Ant and Dec can do no wrong and they make the show really, funny old world isn't it I had to miss most of it because of the afore mentioned phone call!!
Spent part of the call explaining about the show that I was missing because of the phone call!!
It is however addictive and will be dropping in quite regularly as and when I can.
Have a good Tuesday Autumn.

jillie said...

You guys are doing GREAT! It's great to see what an awesome job you all are doing. Wouldn't it be wonderful to have a world without cancer?

Hope all is well...love to you and little "M"

Autumn Storm said...

Jillie, wonderful is the thought, the reality would be indescribably wonderful. :-) With all the money raised this weekend by you and all the other amazing walkers, all those steps will have brought us a great step closer. Hope those feet aren't too sore still. Hugs, hats off to you and wishes for a happy Tuesday.

You too, Kesh, hope you have a good one. :-)

Those boys make me giggle more often than not through their sheer silliness. Junior. Still undecided though whether to nip it in the bud right now, 3 weeks of unmissable TV goes against all my principles. :-D
Spent part of the call explaining about the show that I was missing because of the phone call! First the fireworks, now the jungle. Once you get to Katie and Peter, she'll be all clued up on British culture. ;-) Have a great Tuesday!!

EBEZP said...

Well if I ever show signs of wasting my precious time talking about that pair of good for nothing losers then I suggest you shoot me Autumn!!

I'm the same I think 3 weeks, long time but it is good I'll just watch it for a bit and before you know it.......and you know what to do don't you stay on the beeb after Eastenders!!

Hope you had a good day! Have a good evening, hide the remote!

Karen said...

It's fun, isn't it? Doing all this good? It's a great feeling and I'm grateful to be a part of this!

Have a great day!

Autumn Storm said...

I am too. And so happy to have you be a part of the team. :-) So nice to watch those result figures growing day by day.
Enjoy the rest of your day, Karen - hope the recovery has been continuing as speedily. :-)

Simon, you mean you haven't jumped on the bandwagon that loves Katie and Peter?! ;-)
Have a good night! An early one, since you're joining us at work tomorrow. :-)

EBEZP said...

No way just the growing band of people that hate them.....

Hey Karen mentioned the key word there didn't she? Fun. Team Bravo is soooooo much fun. Doubt it'll be that early because I still have a transatlantic call to make!!
I'll aim for a good day tomorrow as you must hey? Did you avoid IACGMOOH then, I did!!

Autumn Storm said...

Unceasingly. :-)

Well done you! I was lured, not my fault, but I intend to give it up soon, very soon. Today. If I am feeling strong. Mind-numbing stuff, not healthy. I even have favourites. Help!
;-)

Laters.

EBEZP said...

Autumn you must be strong otherwise I'll name and shame!!!
Have a great day!!

Chantel safely landed in Cali - nice to see her since the jaunt to Italy. It shall be a giant Thanksgiving.

Hi to M, who at this point must not even remember the hippies who visited early one. love to you both
T & G

Autumn Storm said...

That's good to hear. Will be interesting to see whether there's a hint of London in her accent. :-) She remembers the Lindor chocolate that George gave her vividly, especially every time we go shopping. :-D Have a good night. Say hey to Chantel for me, xo

Autumn Storm said...

No, Simon, please, not that! Okay, no more, promise.
:-D

Thanks, you too! :-)

tsduff said...

Tee hee - funny you should say that about the accent... noticed it first off! Each sentence ends on a slight down note... and she doesn't even realize she is doing it. I love accents - it is cute. Also she has a few new mannerisms of speech which are decidedly English.

Lindor chocolate... ummm. We talked about you all (your Mum, Dad, M and your sis) around the table last night, reminiscing our trip. Such a nice time it was.

Keshi said...

my dear beautiful angel, come fly by my blog...

Keshi.

Autumn Storm said...

It was, such a nice time, seems so very long ago, so much has happened since. She may enjoy being home so much that she'll want to stay, must be lovely to have her back after so long. Bet George is in his element. :-)

Btw, Terry, you never said, what do you think of my team mates reaching the big 3 mill?

Autumn Storm said...

Kesh, :-D, on my way...
xo

EBEZP said...

Morning Autumn! Just checking your strength levels I was working last night so it was easy to avoid!!
Have a great Thursday!

Autumn Storm said...

My favourite is John. :-D
Happy Thursday, Simon!

EBEZP said...

So you wouldn't have a favourite unless you watched it would you?
One off weakness or complete addiction?

jillie said...

Good morning dear Autumn!

Hope all is going well with you. Making a quick go at the rounds here. I feel like I've been gone forever...ugh!

xoxo

Autumn Storm said...

A week in blogland can seem that way, especially with the people we are used to talking to in some form or another each day. Still owe you that email, Saturday at the latest. Have a great evening, Jillie, xoxo

Simon, just a one-off. :-)

EBEZP said...

Not sure whether to believe that or not but I'm very vulnerable tonight myself, not working, certain person having building work done may make the telephonic escape impossible, so we'll let the one off go hey let's see what happens to me first.
Hope your day was good and have a good vening whatever....!!

Things are good here, thanks, but I am going to try that for sure. :-D Take care and have so much fun that you forget about all of us for the duration. :-)

Autumn Storm said...

Simon, it's on and I'm not watching. Let me know what happens. ;-D

EBEZP said...

Well done then Autumn cos I didn't watch either.
Have a great Friday and be strong tonight because I'm at work so no temptation!

Trée said...

Sweetest, reading this post again, I'd have to say this is perhaps your most brilliant exposition to date. Thank you for carrying the standard and holding firm in the face of indifference. My respect for your resolution and determination to stay the course, to fight the good fight, to stand on principle, to deliver tireless labor, to give your voice till there is no more voice to be given, to lead by example when it looks like no one is following, for all that and more, I say thank you. You truly walk your talk and I am proud to call you a friend.

Love,

Poppet

Autumn Storm said...

Poppet, I honestly do not know how to respond to that but to say thank you and to state the greater truth that Bravo, with it's 39 members and 10,000+ results, would not exist were it not for you. None of us would have known what the WCG is or have been contributing best we can during these past 6+ months had you not introduced us thereto and so it is you who deserves the thanks.

What the multitude of posts show us is that the people who have joined are those who genuinely want to be a part, because they want to do what they can and not because we have repeated more than once the ease and worthiness, and that I know you wholeheartedly agree is a wonderful and warming fact of our team. :-)

Love to you, sweetest heart, x

Autumn Storm said...

Pugsy tonight, let's hope the Brits show us once again just how generous they are. :-) Have a good one, Simon.

EBEZP said...

Children in need is great! So no temptation tonight for either of us!!
Hope you are enjoying it and I'm going to spend a couple of hours chilling a bit to it right now!!
