Racing barefooted after kicking off her flip-flops, Cyndie French pushes her son Derek Madsen, 10, up and down hallways in the UC Davis Medical Center, successfully distracting him during the dreaded wait before his bone marrow extraction. Doctors want to determine whether he is eligible for a blood stem cell transplant, his best hope for beating neuroblastoma, a rare childhood cancer.

what an amazing photo!! I will surely click on it.

Jodes said...

oh GOD! I just clicked thru them all and now i am a mess with tears and a runny nose. My son is 11. How tragic, I feel for her and it has been over a year since it happened, i hope she is still as strong today as she was then.

Autumn Storm said...

Jodes, I've just added some audio to the bottom of the page. Happy New year to you and yours.

Miladysa said...

I couldn't do it Autumn :[ The first two photographs were enough for me.

As a family we have our own ghost [see my post Perspective and Silver Linings].

I appreciate all the hard work Team Bravo do and am working on my husband with regard to our computers!

Happy New Year! x

Autumn Storm said...

Miladysa, that was a deeply moving post, I am so glad that though there were hard times, everything was okay in the end. A blessing he is indeed. Happy New Year to you and to your family. xo

Happy New Year Autumn, and I predict 2008 will bring even more astounding results for you and Team Bravo.

Wishing you peace and prosperity in 2008.

Autumn Storm said...

Happy New Year, Terry, :-), every happiness for 2008. Wish G for me too.

Trée said...

You make me want to bless my own hide with hands cold and quick. I shed tears like a spring Louisiana rain. Then I took action and damn did something about it. And like the train my grandfather engineered before the third fiery wreak took his legs and then his life, I will pound cancer with everything I've got, as relentless as the very disease that takes no holiday, brooks no excuse, and lines up the innocent and young in equal measure.

Coffee on the stove. We got work to do.

Le Captain :-D

Autumn Storm said...

I think it can be hard not to see the enormity of something as a hindrance to doing. Together we stand, 41 of us because you damn well did, bless your heart (and hide) and we'll still be here when the rest join the 350,000 and even if they don't.
Some day I'd like to hear more about your grandfather. Though I likely have. :-)

Trée said...

My paternal grandfather was an engineer (rode in the caboose) for Kansas City Southern Railway. In his career he was involved in three major train wrecks. In the last wreck, he was burned very badly (I was about 12 or so at the time and still remember his skin after the accident as it tried to recover--it was like paper) and had to have both his legs amputated. He lived in a wheelchair for a short time after that, but he was never quite the same and died shortly thereafter. A very hard working man, took me fishing often and had a farm, where I spent some of my summers.

He was the first grandparent I lost. Good man. Honest as the day is long. He would be Rog's father in the story.

Autumn Storm said...

Thank you. He sounds very special. :-)

Trée said...

A very warm welcome to Charlotte as mate #42 on Team Bravo.

Welcome aboard my dear Louisiana friend. We need more New Orleans mates. So glad to have you aboard. :-)

Jules said...

I'm sorry Autumn... I only got about 8 photos in and started to well up... *gulp* Hit a little bit close to home... and made me every so much more proud to be a member of this team!!! I don't think I'm ever shutting off my computer ever again!

Keshi said...

truly inspirational post! I cried.

Happy New Year Autumn MWAH!

Keshi.

Autumn Storm said...

I'm so sorry, Jules, for bringing up difficult memories for you too, xo

Eight photos in you have seen the reason why I post it here, it is more than progression, it is a summons. I hope more doers like yourself, like Charlotte, keep clicking all the way to the grid.

Ms Charlotte Ash, thank you so much for joining the team. With your help, we are going to get there that much sooner. Welcome to Bravo. :-)

Anyone would, Kesh. I remember you commenting 8 months ago, when I first posted this photo and link in conjunction with Team Bravo's commencement. We're keeping your requested spot warm for you. ;-)
Happy New Year, hope you had a wonderful holiday.

Oliviah said...

I can't look at them again, it torments me remembering how hard I tried to do this and never could figure out what the problem was with my computer, or if it was just my failure to comprehend something. Such a simple thing to do to help people. :-(

I will think about the other ways I help people and try not to beat myself up for not being able to do this.

Happy New Year again! xo

Loving Annie said...

OH GOD, I SOBBED SO HARD SEEING AND READING THAT. THAT POOR BOY, THAT POOR MOTHER. THE PAIN THEY WENT THROUGH. THE LOVE SHE HAD FOR HIM. NO WONDER IT WON THE AWARD.
CANCER IS SO MERCILESS. IF TEAM BRAVO CAN HELP SOMEONE ELSE SO THEY DON'T HAVE TO SUFFER LIKE THAT, IT IS A WONDERFUL WONDERFUL THING TO TRY AND DO AND HOPE FOR.

Autumn Storm said...

Oliviah, I'm so glad you found your way back to blogger, we've missed you. :-) And you are still very much a member of Bravo, one of these days perhaps someone can help you with it, but in any case, you tried and that counts. Hugs to you, xo

Well said, Annie, and it's why we love to see more people join, for it is such an easy thing to do. Thank you for all the crunching that you did in 2007, here's to plenty more in 2008. :-)

A big schwinging bravo welcome to new member Kyra. That's two people in two days who came, saw, clicked and joined. Thank you both so much for taking the time.
Happy New Year!

Trée said...

Ooooh, a very warm welcome to mate #43, -Kyra-

I think I kinda like that name. :-D

All are welcome to join us in the fight against cancer and AIDS and a few other diseases. All membership fees are waived for the next two mates. Limited time offer. Not available in stores. :-D

EBEZP said...

Absolutely heart rending post Autumn. Thank you for the courage to post it and the resolve to keep up the fantastic work that we all do.

Amazing what we can all do isn't it, without even knowing about it!

Welcome indeed to our two new members. Your decisions to join is amazing and we do have some fun here too!

Autumn I've said before and I'm sure I will say it again I am so pleased to be in Team Bravo and be part of all this good work that we do but more importantly to know you and everyone on the team and consider each and every one of them as real friends.

Autumn you rock! Team Bravo
.....YAY!!!

Autumn Storm said...

An amazing family.

That's the beauty of it, Simon, to repeat ourselves for the hundredth time at least, :-), once set-up (5 minutes) there's nothing else needs doing. I can't think of a reason why someone would decide not to join if they have been to the WCG website and realized what it is, or even just trusted our word on it, I can however think of a million reasons to join. And I shall eventually post every single one of them. LOL

4 new members since Christmas Day, 2008 is going to be a great year for Bravo, I'm positive! Thank you for your support and for your crunching, Simon. :-)

EBEZP said...

Thats the word Autumn, I've always used community but family....Team Family Bravo, got quite a ring to it hey?

jillie said...

I've seen that before and it always makes me cry!! What an amazing journey.

Hope your new year is off to a great start.

Hugs to you and little M

Autumn Storm said...

Me too, Jillie, I shed a tear every time. 2008 is looking very promising from this end, top of the list, the possibility that we might meet up again sooner than expected. :-) Hugs back attcha, xo

jillie said...

Hey Autumn...hope you have a great wknd. What's your weather like? We're just waiting for the "storm" to bring some much needed rain. Time to chill out, like I haven't enough...hahaha!

xo

Autumn Storm said...

:-D Waiting on promised snow this side of the pond, not so sure that they have it right, but we shall see.
Thanks, Jillie, hope you have a wonderful weekend too, xo

Have a good Saturday night Autumn.
I'm sort of doing Christmas again tonight for Cap'n Jack, so there shall be much merriment!!

These are incredibly powerful pictures. Just amazing.

Autumn Storm said...

A very happy new year to you, dear Autumn. Your blog has become even more moving than before. I wouldn't have thought that possible. It is a beautiful passion that you have for this cause....and for life, I believe.
Great big hugs to you and yours and all the hope in the world for a glorious 2008.
Love,
Aggie

Autumn Storm said...

Aggie, always shining upon others in your comments, bless your heart for your sweet words and wishes. :-)

I think I am just plain stubborn. :-D And optimistic. The thing is, if joining required anything more than a couple of minutes of time, if it required great or ongoing effort, if it required money, I would have mentioned it once and left the links in my sidebar, but it is just such a simple thing to do. Were it not for the Poppet, not only would there not be a Team Bravo, but the 42 other members myself included may not have known there was such a way to do some good. And as always I babble when it comes to the team. :-D
Love and hugs, Aggie, it's always a joyful event to have you stop by. May 2008 be full of blessings for you and your family, x

Autumn Storm said...

Miladysa, thank you most kindly - still smiling :-D

Autumn Storm said...

Isay, let's try and make 2008 the year we meet up again. I'll come over to your side. ;-)

Dare I say Happy New Year Monday!!

Autumn Storm said...

Thanks all, happy Monday to you too. :-)

I think they are very brave and courageous people. It makes it seem so petty, so silly, when people try to form cliches and ignore another person because they feel threatened.
Nah, just some reflections....have a great week!

Autumn Storm said...

Few things matter in the long run. :-) Thank you, Saff, to you too, hope you have a brilliant week! xo

Lindsey said...

How were your Holidays Ms. Autumn??

I've stocked up on sweaters and warm socks. T minus 4 weeks and counting.

Autumn Storm said...

It was very nice thank you, Lindsay, M enjoyed it immensely which in turn carved my experience of it as neatly as a turkey. :-) Hope yours was lovely too and that your new year is off to the best possible start. Lots up ahead to look forward to, and this time you know something of what exactly you have to look forward to holidaying in the UK. :-) Unfortunately, I may still need to wait until I get to Georgia for us to meet up, since I will not be in London. A real shame, not least for the fact it will be the second time that we miss each other. :-(

EBEZP said...

Have a good wednesday Autumn!

Autumn Storm said...

Thanks, Simon, same to you. :-)

D, it's so wonderful to hear from you. I'm hoping that the inactivity on your blog means that you are finding things a little more peaceful. Thank you, I had a very nice C & NY, hope you did too and that your year thus far is off to the best possible start. Take care, hugs to you.

EBEZP said...

Thursday already Autumn, where's the year gone!!

Autumn Storm said...

Same place all the others go into the memory box. :-) A terrific Thursday to you, Simon.

Strumpet said...

Hi, Autumn!

I wanted to stop over and say hello and thank you for the Ginger Remedy suggestion.

I am going to have to get some!

I've been loving reading all the wonderful comments you leave at Tree's site and they really help me to kind of catch-up on what's going on there since I'm a newcomer.

Your blog is really wonderful and touching and helps me much cos my problems are all so small compared to so many other things going on in the world.

Thanks again, and I hope your New Year has been rockin'.

:)

EBEZP said...

Some good times already filed away for this year but all the same, TGIF hey?
Have a good one Autumn!!

Autumn Storm said...

Likewise, Strumpet, have I absolutely loved reading all your comments on The Story, seeing someone new coming in who is enjoying it as much. There are already a couple of your comments that are among my favourites written on the story.

I hope the ginger works, or that you find something else that does the trick, consuming a shot of brandy mixed with steaming water is one I have tried, but since you've been taking all those remedies probably not the best idea, which is why I went for the other. :-) All in all, I hope you feel very much better as soon as strumpetly possible.

Thank you for the kind words on the blog, all done of course in the hope of recruiting a few more members to Team Bravo. :-) Feel better and have a good weekend.

Glad to hear it Simon, start as you mean to go on and all that. Happy Friday. :-)

EBEZP said...

Have a great Weekend Autumn!

Have a lovely weekend Autumn :)

Jodes said...

hey girl - how are ya? I finally broke my big news on the blog.

Autumn Storm said...

Thank you, Miladysa, you too.

Jodes, things are good here thanks. I'll make sure to stop by yours to hear it. :-)

EBEZP said...

Hope you had a great weekend Autumn and that Monday isn't as bad as it could be!!

SaffronSaris said...

Has Sara got in touch with you? I've been seeing that message at the top of your page for quite some time. Hope all is well with Sara.

Autumn Storm said...

I think, save the Monday that Maria was born, that this was the best Monday ever! Hope yours was good too, Simon. :-)

Saff, I've been reading Sara's blog for almost 3 years, she was one of the first blogs that I began to follow. However, we have never exchanged email addresses and so on and so now that her blog has disappeared I have no way of getting in touch with her. I hope therefore that she will pass by here as she has sometimes has done in the past. I'll keep it up there just in case. I'd like to wish her well if she has left for good, and say thank you for letting us share, letting us know her a little, infinitely special person that she is. I hope so too.
Happy week ahead, Saff, xo

EBEZP said...

Wow that sounds great Autumn!! Mine was just a day off but sounds quite normal by comparison hope the rest of the week matches up for you Autumn!

Today was even better! :-D Happy week ahead to you too, Simon.

Miladysa said...

Autumn I hope all your days are wonderful! :)

Autumn Storm said...

Miladysa, that is such a lovely thing to say, thank you. I wish it for you too. :-)

Simon, I'm so buzzed, I'm not sure I shall ever stop. Hope you have a fantastic Friday and weekend, I may not be around much, but I shall catch up with your blogs whenever I am able.

SaffronSaris said...

I know what you mean. It's quite disconcerting when your regular reads stop, more so when the reads were what prompted you to start your own blog.
Then again, if Sara has moved on to happier busier stuff, we will be happy for her too, won't we?

jillie said...

Are you getting ready for the big move? You'll have to let me know how it goes. I'll be getting an email out to you this wknd.

xo to you both!

Autumn Storm said...

Naturally. :-)
Have a good Friday and weekend, Saff.

Autumn Storm said...

It was meant to happen on Wednesday but I had to postpone as M came down with a fever and was quite ill indeed. Tomorrow is now the day. :-)
Look forward to it. Hope all's hunky dory over your way, xo

Autumn Storm said...

I've always got a cup of tea for you, Aggie, spiked or regular as the case may be. Thank you for the kind wishes, hoping your week is going wonderfully too. Look forward to your updates. :-)

Thank you, Miladysa, hope things are good over your way too. Have missed Sins these last couple of days, tremendously, aiming for a catch-up tonight!

Loving Annie said...

Good Thursday morning to you, Autumn Storm ! How are you doing ? What is new with you ? Team Bravo seems to be doing quite nicely thanks to your efforts here :)

Autumn Storm said...

Thank you, Annie, same to you. Am glad things are going so well for you at present. In regards to the team, our recent recruits have made a great difference and we are steaming ahead even quicker than we were before. :-)
Personally, a hug from James Blunt (still grinning more than a week later every time I think of it, pretty sure that will continue always LOL) and a move across the sea have been the highlights of late. Things are good and set to get better, thanks for asking. Happy Friday and weekend when you get that far. :-)

Miladysa said...

You were hugged by James Blunt!!

Where is the post?!!! :}

Trée said...

Miladysa, there is more than a post--there is a video documenting the said hug. Check her profile and look under "Part II." Be prepared to smile. :-)

jillie said...

Have you moved yet? I am really slacking on the computer thing..ugh! Hope all is well for you and Maria!
xo

Thanks again on the info you sent me. I saved it. I guess if anything comes about, it wouldn't be for atleast 6 months but you know I will DEFINITELY keep you posted...

xo

Autumn Storm said...

James' hug

Miladysa, I meant to tell you about this post, knowing you are a fan, forgive me. Be warned though, first I gush all through the post, then I gush all through the comments. :-D

Autumn Storm said...

A week today, Jillie, with nothing much to report yet in regards to living and working arrangements. M has been ill, before and after we left, in fact our departure was delayed by two days for this reason. It's good to be back. As always the sounds and the smells are what gladdens my heart and lets me know I am 'home'.

Look forward to the mail that one day will say we are on our way, with the flight taking just over an hour, I would expect us to see something of one another both here and there though we be in different countries. :-)

SaffronSaris said...

I'm keeping well, was totally occupied the previous 2 weeks working on getting something out.
How've you been?

Autumn Storm said...

I've been good, thanks Saff, busy myself in the sense of not having as much time to devote to blogland as I like and am used to. :-) Happy week ahead.

Loving Annie said...

Just came by on the 31st to say hello, Autumn Storm ! Glad you are busy and things are going well - a VERY excellent reason why not to be blogging !

Agnes Mitchell said...

LOL I'm glad you like my sing-a-long. We really should do it more often. It sure lightens the mood. :) Beware - cat butt picture will be coming up. ROFL
Hugs and laughs and love to you.
Aggie

Autumn Storm said...

That and another trip to Disneyland, we had such a ball last time, sing-a-longs on the coach too if I remember correctly. :-D Looking forward to those cat butts - not sure I should be saying it quite like that - a happy Friday to you, Aggie, and a wonderful weekend, xo

Annie, it is as good a reason as any, if one is looking for an excuse, time is a matter or priority however and so I shall just have to sleep less. ;-) Truth is I intend keeping Cyndie and Derek where they are as a reminder to me and to anyone passing by of the courage, the love and the hardship of this young boy and his family. For Bravo posts like the ones that were posted here, take the bottom link in my sidebar under Team Bravo. A wonderful Friday and weekend to you, loving Annie, always a great pleasure to have you stop by. :-)

Saffy, apologies, not only do I have limited time online at the moment, but my connection keeps breaking down (new router being installed which should take care of that), thus though I saw your message yesterday, it was out before I ever got going on my rounds etc. Will pop by your place, but am just going to finish mine first, will pass you a link at the same time. :-D Happy Birthday!!!!

I got to thinking that, when I type to you on my blog, I always seem to picture you on top of a very big ferris wheel. (remnants of a past post)
It's a happy thought for me - I hope for you too.

Hugs hon.

:-D That must be from when Terry and George came to London and we all went up together. Am still exceedingly proud of myself for ever putting myself in to one of those glass goblets and letting them dangle me 135m above the ground. Of course now there is this in Singapore at 169m, so until I visit I can no longer say that I have taken a trip on the World's largest observation wheel. ;-) Sitting on top a Ferris wheel, I always picture you in a Mickey Mouse sweater with a smile in your eyes and a wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeee on your lips. :-D
